Heat: Pedal to the Metal is a simple to medium complexity, motor racing board game for 2-6 players aged 8 and over. Heat puts players in the driving seat of intense car races, using an intuitive hand management system of cards to control their car's speed when manoeuvring corners and managing the heat from the engine.
The game system is remarkably easy to pick up. You select your gear and that tells you how many speed cards you can play from your hand. That is the only mechanic that a player needs to learn. However, the management of your card deck is deceptively tactical and extremely tense and exciting when competing against other drivers.
The game has a whole load of modules that keep Heat interesting after the initial races. You can apply upgrades to your car which will help you hug the curves and keep the engine cool enough to maintain top speeds and there is even the addition of variable weather conditions that come into each track. Players can compete in a "Championship System" to play a whole season in one game night, where you customise your car before each race to try to claim the top spot of the podium.
Finally, the game looks beautiful. The artwork and production are both to a very high standard and together with the playability, mean that this is a game you will return to again and again.
